Renee’s desire to make a positive impact on the community, background in training and employment and her experiences running The Pie Company (2011-2017) led her to create an employment program with the Squamish Helping Hands Society. The program aimed to offer employment opportunities to those facing barriers. The positive results from this created a desire to further develop the program into something bigger that had the capacity to assist more people. Renee took this concept and entered the Whistler Centre for Sustainability’s 2016 Social Venture Challenge which she won. Through this win, Renee was able to take the seed money that was won and officially form and incorporate the Cutting Barriers Employment and Training Association.
